About UtilityMinimization
UtilityMinimization covers topics in public policy and economics. This site is primarily aimed at non-technical viewers who are interested in gaining some insight into current issue and events. Throughout the discussions about contemporary problems in microeconomics and public policy, we attempt to give some insight behind the theory as well as some of the policy implications of the issues. This site was originally designed for students in microeconomics and public economics classes, but over time it has (hopefully) expanded to be of interest to a general viewership.
Author: Charles Parekh is a doctoral student in public policy at the Wagner Graduate School at New York University. His areas of interest are state and local public finance and urban education issues. Before returning to school, his background was in economic consulting and litigation support. Prior to NYU, he attended the University of Chicago and Colgate University.
About the Name: UtilityMinimization is a play on the concept of Utility Maximization in economics. Utility is the term in economics for the well-being of an economic actor. In general, economists assume that rational actors try to maximize their utility given some constraints, such as time and/or money. The name UtilityMinimization attempts to demonstrate the fact that I take neither myself nor economics too seriously.
